Product Details

JOY 80 is tailored for smaller sailboats and motorboats between 9 and 12 meters (30–40 ft), where space is limited but performance can’t be compromised.
Crafted from AISI 316L stainless steel and powered by a compact motor-gearbox system, it offers the same intuitive mooring experience of the larger JOY units—just scaled for lighter vessels and tighter decks.

With a single press of the footswitch, the cleat automatically coils in your mooring line, removing the need for winches or brute strength. It handles line diameters between 15 and 20 mm, and comes in both 12V and 24V versions to suit your onboard system.

Included by default is a standard single footswitch, while more demanding users can upgrade to a premium single footswitch for extra durability, or choose the premium double footswitch with electronic control box for bidirectional control—ideal when space is tight and precision matters.

Though typically in stock, JOY 80 is assembled to order, allowing us to ensure optimal quality and configuration before shipping.
Reliable, compact and easy to install, JOY 80 brings effortless mooring to smaller vessels—without compromising control or safety.

The Footswitch

Standard Single Switch

We include a straightforward, non-branded footswitch with every JOY, so you can get up and running in minutes—no extra parts, no delays. Its lightweight plastic build handles sun and spray well for early use, making it ideal for initial setup, sea trials, or occasional weekend cruising.

Premium Single Switch

Delivered with its dedicated control box. Crafted from solid AISI 316 stainless steel with electronics fully potted to IP67, this footswitch will withstand corrosion, pitting, or moisture damage. One press powers JOY up or down (based on wiring), while the pre-terminated cable ensures a fast, flawless install.

Premium Double Switch

Delivered with its control box. All the toughness of the single version, doubled for two-way control. Separate UP and DOWN pads let you fine-tune JOY in either direction, reliably driving any DC motor in CW or CCW. The sealed stainless housing shrugs off salt, UV and heavy boots year after year, with nothing to rust and no exposed wiring.

FAQ

What makes JOY different from a regular cleat?

JOY is the world's first motorized self-tailing cleat, with capstan integrated, that
revolutionizes docking. With a simple foot touch, it automatically takes up
slack, tensions your mooring line, and locks it securely. No more struggling
with heavy lines, no more back strain, no more needing crew help. It's like
having an automated docking assistant built into your boat.

How easy is JOY to install on my existing boat?

JOY is designed for straightforward installation on most vessels 30+ feet. It comes in
horizontal and vertical motor configurations to fit your deck layout. Most
professional installations take less than 2 hours with our detailed guides and
templates. The system connects to your boat's 12V or 24V electrical system -
simpler than installing a windlass. We provide complete installation support
and can recommend certified installers in your area.

Will JOY last in harsh marine conditions?

Absolutely. JOY is built like a tank with AISI 316L marine-grade stainless steel - the same
material used in premium yacht hardware. All electronics are fully sealed
against saltwater, and the motorized system is designed for thousands of
docking cycles. Our first units installed 7 years ago are still operating
perfectly. It's engineered to outlast your boat.

What are the main benefits of having JOY on my boat?
  • Safety First: Eliminates injury risk from heavy line handling and awkward docking
    positions
  • Solo Sailing: Dock confidently single-handed - no crew needed
  • Effortless Operation: One foot touch does everything automatically
  • Stress-Free Docking: No more shouting at crew or struggling in tight marinas
  • Premium Value: Adds luxury automation that impresses guests and increases boat value
  • Easy to use: the ease of use does not require expert sailor in the maneuver
How much power does JOY consume from my boat's battery?

JOY is extremely power-efficient. Each docking operation uses minimal battery power -
equivalent to running a small LED light for a few minutes. The system only
draws power during the brief moments of line tensioning and locking. You can
dock dozens of times on a single battery charge without any concern.

CanI still use the cleat manually if needed?

Yes! JOY includes a manual override feature, so you can always operate it like a
traditional cleat if needed. The motorized system doesn't interfere with manual
operation - you get the best of both worlds. This redundancy ensures you're
never stuck without a functioning cleat.

What size boat is JOY suitable for?

Feel free to contact us with your boat configuration.

JOY is engineered for vessels 30–150 feet, with models tailored to specific loads:

  • JOY 100 kg – Perfect for boats 30–50 ft
  • JOY 300 kg – Ideal for yachts 50–70 ft
  • JOY 400 kg – Designed for vessels 70–90 ft
  • JOY 500 kg – Built for large yachts 90–120 ft

Each model is precisely engineered to handle the mooring loads of its size category safely and reliably.

Is JOY worth the investment for my boat?

JOY eliminates the physical strain and injury risks of docking, enabling confident solo operation and adding premium automation that increases your boat's value.

It’s especially valuable if you’re an older sailor, have physical limitations, often sail alone, or simply want stress-free docking.

JOY won the prestigious DAME Award 2021 and is trusted by premium yacht builders including Nimbus, Solaris, Ferretti, Hanse, and Pardo.

This is more than a purchase—it’s an investment in safer, more enjoyable boating for years to come.
